Dokrijk was a serie of concerts below surface,
at the dry docks on the northern part of town. The surroundings are heritage of the old harbour activities of Antwerp. These permanent constructions would be flooded or put dry in order to repair extra large ships. Nowerdays the dry docks are out of use… untill we came along...
These dry docks kinda look and feel like ancient Rome amphitheatres, with that same large oval open—air venue with raised seatings. Time took its toll and what remains is a rumble between industrial heritage in decay and the force of nature taking over. That constant metamorphosis makes the dry docks a vivid scenery and a small universe on its own. A picture perfect place for wandering arounds or get—togethers ( and that’s where we come in ).
https://www.stageco.be/ build up a marvellous platform from top to bottom that could host 400 people to watch the shows below. The look and feel of the construction blends in the industrial decay just fine. Good job guys!
Many thanks to all performers
who gave us their very best, to all bookers for their
believe in a brand new concept below surface, to all light & sound
engineers for dragging all material deep down the docks and
all of the many many people showing up in these pandamic
times with all necessary precautions made ♡
And let’s not forget https://www.facebook.com/kwark.frietveld for the pictures
a summer long. Way too many, but here a glimpse of a day & night deep down the docks.
